Quick Update of the Situation and Things to Do If Your Summer Is Not Busy

Sadly, there is not really any good news.

An important aid group, Oxfam, had to leave one of Darfur's largest camps due to dangers aid workers were facing.

France, who has many soldiers in neighboring Chad (neighbor to Sudan, not France), would like to see protected roads for aid workers set up leading to refugee camps in both Chad and Sudan. They have offered to use their own troops to protect these roads.

A Senate Resolution is being slowly passed in the Senate that will be sent to China. It asks China,
who holds a lot of sway in Sudan due to their numerous oil investments, to do more about the genocide in Darfur. The resolution is number 203.

That is all the "big" latest news that I can think of. Oh! All proceeds from Green Day's new t-shirt will benefit Darfur. So, if you're a Green Day fan, buy a t-shirt!

Okay, that is all for the news. Right now I am sorta planning for next year. As of now, I don't have any summer events planned. I met with Senator Chambliss about a month ago, who signed onto Resolution 203, concerning China and Darfur, shortly after the meeting : ) and I am right now in the process of setting up a meeting with Senator Isakson, if any of you would like to tag along, lemme know!

Also, here are a few books I would suggest that you read that are really good (and not boring):

The Power of Genocide by Samantha Powers
First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung (Cambodia)
Night by Elie Wiesel (great book, really fantastic)
Not On Our Watch by Don Cheadle/John Prendergast

Thats all for now. keep checking the blog
